This is a very rare 1st generation Phrobis M9A1 trials bayonet in OD green color with scabbard and manual. The Trials M9A1's were made in 1 small batch for testing with the Army and USMC. Both green and black ones were made. Most were destroyed during field testing. Many newly designed parts were used on this bayonet, however they used standard 4 line Phrobis blade. Ultimately, the Military never adoptive the improved design even though it performed well. Made in USA.
The bayonet is in excellent condition overall and was never field tested or issued. It was originally acquired directly from Phrobis, and it is probably a production over-run. The blade has factory edge, very minimal scabbard wear, and a few swirl marks from testing/adjusting the wire cutter function. There are several hardness testing marks on the blade. Stone is cracked, and a replacement one will be included, but it is not recommended to try and take the old one out. The scabbard and grip are bead blasted for non-reflectivity, so oils will cause the frosted look to darken up. There are some areas around the cutter plate and stone where you can see this. The scabbard spring is on the top, so this knife is put into the scabbard "reverse" of the way a regular Phrobis is put in. The rubber retainer is intact, but has not been used and should not be used to avoid breaking it (this turned out to be a weakness with the M9A1 and was later dropped from the design). Included is a rare, genuine original manual made specifically for the M9A1. The other papers shown are photocopies - all are on this site under the resources tab.
